Organic Food a Scam?

It seems like people are overlooking the importance of the booming Organic Food industry... I would write an article about why Organic food is healthy, more humane, worth the extra cost, etc. BUT, there are hundreds of articles on this and research promoting and debunking the importance of organic growing, so...

This article is actually a trojan horse, because I'm using the topic of Organic Food to bring you another message,

REFINED FOODS ARE THE REAL SCAM!

"But Andrew, Food is food, get over it -- lol!"

NO, eating paper is a possibility but it doesn't make it food. You are eating the corporate cum of an industry that is selling you cardboard and labeling it as food. When you eat refined flour you are eating grains that have almost zero nutritional value and then later fortified (ie chemists find ways to sprinkle isolated nutrients with the flour). When you consume refined sugar, the sugar is so processed it rapidly spikes your blood sugar. Refined produce works your body harder to break it down and utilize the fiber to have proper digestion.

The foods below are actually barely recognized by the body as food. Their energy spike is so strong and short-lived they act more like a drug, giving your body a quick sugar high and then cycling so that you have to compensate with more of it to feel nourished.
  • white bread
  • cake
  • cookies
  • pastries
  • crackers
  • chips
  • soda
  • most juices
  • canned fruits and vegetables

This can be considered a weak argument but hear me out; if you are purchasing organic food, chances are you are not eating as much refined grains, cardboard cut cookies and crackers, and drinks with tons of refined sugars. At the very least, eating organic is keeping you away from the grocery isles selling products that are barely even suitable for mindless emotional eating.

truth! those foods are drugs. once you pop, you can't stop...so terrible.

on another note, i ate ethiopian food with the guys today. that's raw energy right there. i think what people call primitive is really quite advanced. you don't see aboriginal people producing waste or ravaging resources.

Oh my...
All the things that are listed really make me feel drained at the end of the day, but it seems like they'll never disappear...
MUST RESIST...or find other alternatives, of course. ;P

Not to mention all the GM foods. Frankenstein foods are the main reason I buy mostly organic.

Yeah, GM foods are scary to me, but I'm also open to the opposing argument and to research creating safe GM foods, sad thing is it takes much trial and error and we're the guinea pigs for future generations.

Ha, we all know these foods are no good, but when you explain exactly why, it makes it a bit easier to talk myself out of eating them.

Your posts are good, but you would do well to cite to some authority when you make bold statements. You can declare anything you want, but backing it up with the proper authority makes you points hit even harder, and makes you look more credible in the process.

although it is true that citing sources is important, most of what andrew jen has posted in this entry is common knowledge. but i guess common sense is not so common after all.

in a related issue, american food is not regulated well. according to food, inc. co-producer and investigative journalist eric schlosser, the FDA is corrupt. suppliers do not need to label genetically altered food as such. the food we buy from supermarkets could be a whole mess of things, and we don't even know because they don't have proper labeling. =(

Thanks Anonymous, it is a good idea and I do research health topics regularly so there are abundant sources to pull from. Thanks!
